Commissioners Will Be Participating in National Legislative Conference
The regularly scheduled Tuesday, February 28, 2017 Board of El Paso County Commissioners (BoCC) meeting has been canceled as several Commissioners will be representing El Paso County at the National Association of Counties (NACo) Annual Legislative Conference February 24-March 2 in Washington.
The NACo Legislative Conference brings together more than 2,000 county officials from across the country to focus on Federal legislative and policy issues impacting county governments. Attendees will hear from key Administration officials and members of Congress and attend many informational sessions focusing on issues ranging from funding for transportation infrastructure to disaster mitigation and recovery.
Colorado County Commissioners will meet with lawmakers and key Congressional and key administration staff to discuss Federal issues of special interest to Colorado residents. These include the ongoing challenges and uncertainties caused by the proposed EPA “Waters of the U.S.” Rule which would result in both delays and higher costs for needed storm water infrastructure improvements. Also on the agenda for Colorado Commissioners critical funding to widen I-25 from Monument Hill to Castle Rock, the need to reorganize U.S. Forest Service funding to eliminate the practice of “fire borrowing,” so that Forest health initiatives and fire mitigation work can be done to reduce both the number and severity of wildland fires like the 2012 Waldo Canyon and 2013 Black Forest fires that resulted in the loss of four lives and millions of dollars of damage in El Paso County.
Meetings of the Board of County Commissioners can be viewed through live streaming at www.elpasoco.com by clicking on the link in the left side column marked, Live Meetings at Centennial Hall. Commissioners meetings are replayed on the El Paso County News and Information Channels Comcast channel 59 and Century Link High Definition Channel 1089. Regularly scheduled BoCC meetings are held Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Hearing Room at Centennial Hall, 200 South Cascade Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs.
