DL Services Unavailable Starting at 3:00 Today
Will Resume Tuesday, February 21
[Colorado Springs, Colo. – Feb 17, 2017] All driver’s license services will be temporarily unavailable throughout the state today starting at 3:00 p.m. Services will resume on Tuesday, February 21. The brief interruption in services is to allow for the Colorado Department of Revenue to implement a new system. The upgrade will only affect driver’s license transactions; all other motor vehicle related transactions will still be available to citizens statewide.
“We’re happy to be one of a few counties that offer most driver’s license services to our citizens without them having to go to a state-run office,” said Chuck Broerman, El Paso County Clerk and Recorder. “It is my hope that this brief interruption in driver’s license services will allow us to ultimately serve citizens faster, more efficiently, and more cost effectively. All the systems that we work with in driver’s license and motor vehicle are old and are in desperate need of an upgrade.”
The state’s driver’s license system hasn’t been significantly upgraded since 1992. The state’s motor vehicle system hasn’t been upgraded since the 1980’s.
The Clerk’s North Office at Union Town Center will be open as usual this Saturday for all other transactions. El Paso County is the only county in the state to operate an office on Saturdays. The transactions affected by the upgrade are:
The system upgrade was developed and paid for by the Colorado Department of Revenue as part of the “Colorado Drives” program. The program was funded by the Colorado Legislature in both the 2014 and 2015 legislative sessions.
