2017 El Paso County Fair Scheduled July 15-22
At its regularly scheduled meeting today the Board of El Paso County Commissioners received a $50,000 contribution from the non-profit Fairgrounds Corporation to be used to improve facilities and support the 2017 County Fair as well as ongoing 4-H programs in El Paso County. The Fairgrounds Corporation was formed in 2010 to manage the liquor license at the County Fairgrounds in Calhan,
Connie Johnson, President of El Paso County Fairgrounds Corporation told Commissioners, “each year it gets even more exciting.” Per the Fairgrounds Corporation by-laws, the annual fund balance from each year of operations is reinvested to support the County Fair, Fairgrounds facility and 4-H programs for the upcoming year. “If the proposed 2017 fund balance uses are approved, the Fair Corporation will have contributed $289,000 to support the County Fair, Fairgrounds Facility and 4-H since its inception in 2010.” Johnson noted that a special “World of Outlaws” show at the Fairgrounds racetrack last year drew lots of race fans and contributed to an especially good year for revenues.
For 2017, the Fairgrounds Corporation funds will be used to replace inadequate refrigeration equipment, install new barrier fencing for the race track and purchase a portable sound system. The funds will also be used to support 4-H programs at the Fairgrounds and help to underwrite the costs of promotion and entertainment for this year’s El Paso County Fair.
Commissioners Board President Darryl Glenn accepted the contribution with great thanks, “This is great,” Glenn said. “We definitely appreciate all your hard work and dedication.”
