Public Logic and Accuracy Testing Concludes Without a Hitch
[Colorado Springs, Colo. – October 9, 2017] The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office concluded the public logic and accuracy testing of its new election equipment last week. The Clerk and Recorder purchased new equipment this year to replace the aging equipment the County had for over 17 years.
With the speed of the new equipment, the Office was able to conduct the testing in one and a half days – cutting the time for the test in half from previous years.
The test is conducted by counting and tabulating a series of over 3,000 ballot combinations to ensure that all ballots will be counted accurately. This year’s test produced 100 percent accurate results.
“We are pleased to have been able to conduct the test with less labor, and even more transparency than in previous years because of the new equipment,” said Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman. “Tabulation, in particular, is enhanced as the new software captures a digital image of each ballot and saves it for further review and transparency.”
The test was conducted under the review of representatives from the Democratic and Republican parties to ensure a fair and accurate process.
This year, the Office will also participate in the first statewide risk limiting audit after the election, which includes utilizing a statistical method to determine whether votes were counted accurately.
