Clerk and Recorder’s Office offers sample ballot interpreted in American Sign Language
[Colorado Springs, Colo. – Nov 2, 2017] The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has produced its first sample ballot that has been interpreted in American Sign Language. The video has been placed on the Clerk’s social media pages, and is available here.
Only a handful of similar videos have been produced throughout the country. The idea was generated through the Office’s partnership with The Independence Center, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting greater independence for those with disabilities.
“Our hope is that the video will make voting and the issues on the ballot more accessible for individuals in our community that are more familiar with ASL. We look forward to exploring more opportunities in the future to provide similar resources so that our office continues to provide as accessible of a voting experience as possible to our citizens,” said Chuck Broerman.
The Elections Department in the Clerk’s Office teamed up with The Independence Center again this election to turn the Center into a voter service and polling center. The Independence Center will be open Monday, November 6 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Election Day from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. for citizens to vote in-person, register to vote, or drop off a ballot.
