On Monday, October 31, 2011, at about 12:15 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office communications center received a call from the Colorado State Patrol dispatch office about a vehicle fireon Goldfield Drive just north of the Fountain Valley School. Deputies and Troopers were able to put out the fire with the extinguishers from their patrol cars. The vehicle, a 2010 white Dodge Caravan, is a total loss.
There were indicators that the fire had been intentionally set, so the El Paso County Sheriff's Office fire investigator responded to the scene. The vehicle was towed to the Sheriff's Offic impound facility for processing.
Investigators contacted the registered owner, who said the vehicle broke down in that area at about 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2011. The owners had planned to return once it was daylight to have the vehicle towed away.
The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have seen any people or vehicles in the area of Goldfield Drive north of the Fountain Valley School between 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 30 and 12:20 a.m. on Monday, October 31, to call dispatch at 719-390-5555.
