On March 15, 2012, at about 11:58 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received a report of shots fired at 526 Griffith Way in southern El Paso County.
Deputies arrived at the scene and found a male party with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. A female party was also located and interviewed regarding what had occurred. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. This morning, the victim is listed in serious but stable condition.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office Investigations division responded to the scene. It was determined there was an argument between the parties and ultimately the victim was outside the residence when he was shot by the suspect with a rifle. The suspect has been identified as 23 year old Sarah Rael.
Rael has subsequently been charged with Criminal Attempt Second Degree Murder. She is in custody at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on a no bond as the charge is a Domestic Violence Offense. She is scheduled to go to advisements tomorrow and her bond will be set at that time.
This is an ongoing investigation and any additional information will be released as it becomes available.
