On May 28, 2012, at 12:46 p.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the dispatch center of the Burlington Northern Railroad Company. They reported an engineer had stopped his train in the area adjacent to Highway 85/87 near Plaza Drive and reported he observed what appeared to be a person who may have been struck by a train lying near the tracks. Deputies responded to the location and confirmed there was a male victim who was deceased and was lying on the east side of the railroad tracks.

On May 29, 2012 the El Paso County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy and identified the victim as David Allen Campbell DOB 04/29/1957 of Security Colorado.

The Coroner determined Mr. Campbell’s manner of death to be suicide and the cause of death blunt force trauma.

As this was determined to be a suicide, no further information will be released on this investigation.
