On Thursday June 21, 2012, El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa graciously accepted a donation of $20,000.00 from the El Pomar Foundation.
After visiting the fire in Northern Colorado with El Paso County Wildfire Suppression personnel, Mr. Terrance McWilliams of the El Pomar Foundation identified a need in our region.
Mr. McWilliams and Mr. Chris Myers provided El Paso County with a gift in the form of a check for $20,000.00. The money will be used to purchase utility terrain vehicles for the El Paso County Wildfire Suppression Section. Utility terrain vehicles will assist wildfire crews with providing access to supplies and personnel support in the event of a fire in El Paso County.
The partnership between first responders and the El Pomar Foundation helps ensure El Paso County remains prepared to minimize the affects of a fire on our community.
In response to the gift Sheriff Terry Maketa said, “I am so thankful for the long standing partnership we have enjoyed with the El Pomar Foundation. They have supported our wild land fire efforts for many years and their generosity could not have come at a better time as the threat of wild land fire grows with each day. We have all witnessed the devastation these fires can cause and we certainly owe a great debt of gratitude to volunteer fire fighters who place themselves in harms way to protect lives, personal property and natural resources. This donation by El Pomar will provide our wild land firefighters with the much needed mobility to attack fires early on and create vital supply lines to those on the front line.”
