After consulting with Incident Commander Rich Harvey, Commander Jim Reid and Division Group Supervisor Rod Collins, Sheriff Terry Maketa has downgraded the mandatory evacuation order for Crystal Park to voluntary.
Sheriff Maketa urges residents to remain diligent in their awareness and be prepared to evacuate immediately if necessary. Current conditions make it possible for residents to reoccupy their homes on a voluntary basis, but the unpredictability of weather and the nature of the fire may require future mandatory evacuations. Residents are strongly cautioned there remains a significant risk in reoccupying their homes and understand returning to their residence is a voluntary and personal decision.
Residents are strongly encouraged to register their cellular and home telephones with Reverse 911 at www.elpasoteller911.org. Please log onto www.inciweb.org for current, official information regarding the status of the Waldo Canyon Fire.
In the event a second mandatory evacuation is ordered, please cooperate to help expedite the operation and ensure the safety of all persons involved.
