MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER FOLLOWING DISTURBANCE IN ELLICOTT
On July 11, 2012 at approximately 6:09 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 hang-up call from 23695 Wheat Street in unincorporated El Paso County. Dispatchers from the Sheriff’s Office eventually spoke via telephone with a neighbor who told them a man was on scene with his throat severely injured. Once deputies arrived on scene they discovered both Paul and Rae Ann Thompson each with injuries to their throats. They were transported by helicopter to local hospitals for treatment and each underwent emergency surgery. Evidence found on scene revealed a disturbance had taken place in the home between Mr. and Mrs. Thompson. After further investigation it was determined Mr. Thompson attempted to take his own life after assaulting his wife. Mrs. Thompson remains in the hospital and is in serious but stable condition. Mr. Thompson is in stable condition and currently under guard at a local hospital. He has been charged with the following crimes and will be held on $500,000 bond.
Criminal Attempt, First Degree Murder, 1 Count, Class 2 Felony
Assault in the First Degree, 1 Count, Class 3 Felony
