EL PASO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MAKES ARREST IN SEXUAL ASSAULT ON A CHILD CASE AND ASKS FOR ANY ADDITIONAL VICTIMS TO COME FORWARD
On April 27, 2012, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a sexual assault on a child case which occurred approximately six years earlier. It was quickly learned the case may involve two separate female victims, each between the ages of seven and nine at the time the crime occurred. The investigation was referred to our Investigations Division for follow up.
The male suspect in the case was identified as Murray Basinger who is now 53 years old. Mr. Basinger’s wife would often babysit the two victims at the Basinger home on Harrisburg Way. The unlawful sexual acts between Mr. Basinger and the victims would occur when they were at his home and his wife was either sleeping or running errands. The events occurred on more than one occasion over a period of a few months.
Information gained during the investigation lead to the application for an arrest warrant for Mr. Basinger for Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust. The arrest warrant was obtained and he was taken into custody on September 29, 2012 without incident and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on $25,000 bond. Mr. Basinger bonded out of the facility the following day.
The Sheriff’s Office asks if you have information about this case or similar events involving Mr. Basinger to call Detective Greg White at 520-7246.
