Victim Identified From Widefield Fire

On October 4, 2012 at approximately 1:14 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received 911 calls regarding a house fire in the 400 block of Cielo Vista Street in Widefield.  Security Fire Department, Fort Carson Fire Department, and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene. 

The home was completely engulfed in flames and deputies quickly learned that five people had escaped the home and one family member was unaccounted for; three of those who escaped were transported to a local hospital for injuries they sustained from the fire and smoke.  Once personnel were able to check the home, they discovered a deceased victim which was presumed to be that of the unaccounted for family member.

On October 11, 2012, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office provided the Sheriff’s Office with positive identification of the victim which confirms it as the family member, 64 year old Linda McDowell.  The cause and manner of her death are pending test results.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
